The map depicts Indigenous Place Names all across Canada

The map depicts Indigenous place names all across Canada, shared by permission from several First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities. The names express territorial rights and describe the shapes, sounds, and stories of sovereign lands. They mark the locations of gathering places, communities, places of danger and beauty, and places where treaties were signed. While the map does not depict all of the Indigenous place names of Canada, nor does it represent all Indigenous Nations and communities in Canada, however it does help provide respect for Indigenous lands and sovereignties.

Place names on this map are the intellectual and cultural property of the various First Nation, Métis, and Inuit communities, and should not be reproduced without permission from those communities and language keepers, for specific permissions information, refer to the various lists permissions included on the sides of the map.

The Canadian-American Center have professionally printed copies of the 42 inch wall maps that can be purchased through their website, as well as a high resolution digital version that may be downloaded for free and printed for personal or educational uses.
