Network (NRN)
The majority of maps created contain roads, so having reliable road network data can be pretty important.
The National Road Network (NRN) is a seamless geospatial vector data containing Canadian road phenomena that provides access to over 1 million kilometres of up-to-date centerline road network data. The data has been separated by provincial and territorial jurisdictions.
The spatial resolution of the data is approximately 1:10,000 (but only a general estimate since the data was originated from multiple sources) and should suffice for most projects that requires road information. If you are creating large scale maps then you may want to check the regional or municipal data portals.
The data was originally distributed and housed within the GeoBase brand, but is now under the responsibility of Statistics Canada and can now be found on the Federal Government’s Open data portal. The maintenance of the data is accomplished within the framework of intergovernmental partnership agreements, and the aim is to produce an update at least once a year.
For more details on the data set refer to the Data Product Specifications documents that accompanies the data sets and found on each download page.

This handy color shaded relief map of the world including oceans was created from the NOAA ETOPO1 data set and was intended to be used with handheld Garmin GPS units, but can also make a nice colorful back ground image to use in Google Earth. Find out how to download this free resource …
