Purpose

Reporting to the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Lead, you will contribute to the continued long-term social license and market access of agriculture and forestry’s primary and secondary producers. You will do this by providing a greater understanding of the environmental issues facing our clients through the provision of high quality spatial information analysis and map applications that support research, extension and policy development.

Your ability to work independently on projects with a high degree of complexity, combined with strong engagement skills will be necessary. Highly developed communication skills along with strong interpersonal skills will help you contribute to a positive work environment. Your ability to be innovative, resourceful and to take initiative will enable you to push technical limits to find new solutions and ensure your success in this role.

Qualifications

Degree in a related field (geomatics, engineering, GIS) plus four years of related experience or a diploma (cartography, GIS, survey, drafting) plus six years related experience is preferred. A degree (natural science, earth science, geology or geography) with a minor in geomatics or GIS may be considered. Eligibility for certification by an accredited society for GIS, geodesy or cartography is preferred. Experience managing geographic information projects is essential. Experience working with computer coding environments and scripting languages (e.g. Python, R, SAS, Perl, JavaScript) is required. Experience and awareness of western Canadian farming systems will be considered an asset. Equivalencies will be considered.
