[page last updated March 2016]

Attending professional GIS conferences or  geomatics related events is always a great way to stay current with what is happening in the geomatics industry and provides amble opportunity to enjoy a good time while networking and mingling with others in the geomatics sector. GIS conferences or geomatics related events - 2005 CIG Conference in Ottawa

Many professional organizations across Canada offer great geomatics related conferences and events every year, so we created the Canadian GIS Conference and Events section on CanadianGIS.com as a way to provide the geospatial community with free information about the various related conferences, events, workshops, training seminars and webinars that are being offered.

Our events section includes a variety events related to GIS, remote sensing, surveying, cartography, geography and all other geomatics disciplines (and from British Columbia to Newfoundland).

We are fortunate enough to be able to attend several GIS conference and events every year all across Canada so we also post summaries of past events (when we can) with photos for those that were not fortunate enough to attend but wanted to know how the conference or event turned out.

Listed below are some of the upcoming GIS conferences, events and webinars.  If you know of one that is not listed in our events section or are planning a geomatics related conference or event and would like to have it listed for free  and promoted out through the Canadian GIS & Geomatics networks then let us know.

How about a Thumbs Up?

Facebook is one of the most popular social media sites on the internet and websites like CanadianGIS.com rely on it to help further promote our GIS & Geomatics resources. So if you are using FaceBook then we would love it if you could give our page a Thumbs Up!.

Canadian Geospatial Directory

Canadian Geospatial Directory

The Canadian Geospatial Directory contains basic information about the various Geomatics related companies found in and around Canada (with some from abroad) including many key aspects such as the companies basic info, contact info, web site info and geographic location. This section and our website continue to evolve over time as more companies are added.

Canadian Geospatial DirectoryTo find a Canadian geomatics related company listing, simply use the simple search tool (that will allow you to search company names, Cities or postal code) found along the right hand side of the site or select a category from the navigation menu above.

We created the Canadian Geospatial Directory with the hopes that it becomes a comprehensive valuable online resource directory of geospatial related technologies, location-based services, and all geomatics related companies, organizations, education programs,  and location related services in Canada. It uses Google maps to show spatial locations of services (when available) and advanced database search functionality to help people find services in their region.

the Canadian Geospatial DirectoryWe started adding content to the Canadian Geospatial Directory using our own database that contains over 1000 basic entries of various Canadian companies and organizations from coast to coast that work in the geomatics field.

But now it is time for the Canadian Geomatics community to help us further fill out the directory by contributing more information to existing basic listings and adding new listings for companies and services that have yet to be included. We feel this way the geomatics community can all help make the Canadian Geospatial Directory a valuable online go-to resource for anybody to find information about Geospatial companies, organizations and services in Canada.

Basic directory listings in the Canadian Geospatial Directory are free and may include logos, images, details, link to company or service, location etc. Many companies and organizations have more then one location so in order to be better represented on the online maps, multiple entries may be created.

So go ahead and search for your Geospatial related company, organizations or service, then if it has already been included, claim it and make any necessary changes.

If it has not been included yet, then why not take a few moments, add your information and get listed in the  Canadian Geospatial Directory. Simply click here to register for a free user account

Note: a FAQ is being created with answers to common questions about the Canadian Geospatial Directory – however feel free to send us any questions you have

To help fund the project, more comprehensive, “Enhanced” directory submissions are available for a small nominal fee and will provide people the ability to have a more detailed description, more images, videos etc. These listings will also be labeled “Featured” listings and appear at the top of categories and search results and be highly promoted through the Canadian GIS & Geomatics social networks – feel free to contact us for more information about this service.

Canadian Geomatics Conference and Events

The Canadian Geomatics Conference and Events section was designed to help provide people with a central place to obtain information about the various GIS & Geomatics related conferences, events, workshops, training and webinars that are held in Canada.

Canadian GIS & Geomatics related ConferenceAs you browse through the conference and events section you will find that are a wide array of geomatics related conferences, events, workshops, training and webinars available to Canadians. Many of these are conferences that we have attended regularly, events that we have attended before or events that we know about but have yet to attend.

However, often there are events that we are not always aware of yet, so we have added the ability for people to post info about any Canadian geomatics events that they are hosting or ones that they know of but that we missed.

All of our conference and event listing are also promoted through all our social network channels and social media sites like LinkedIn, FaceBook and Twitter, providing you more exposure to your event.

Submit an Online Web Mapping Site

Online Web mapping involves designing, implementing, generating and delivering maps to end users via the Internet through common web browsers, allowing people to use maps interactively with out needing high end software. Web GIS is very similar to web mapping but provides analysis, data processing, publishing and other GIS abilities. Often these two terms are used synonymously, even if they are not exactly the same product. None the less both have been increasing exposure over the past few years, a major accomplishment for the GIS industry and since Web mapping can not exist without GIS, (and for simplicity) we have combined these all into one category here on the site.

internet with globe - web mappingOur web mapping section examines the various online web mapping and web GIS applications that have been created all across Canada.

Some of ones that we have covered are ones that we use on a regular basis, some that we stumbled across and some have been submitted to us by others. So as you browse through the our Web mapping section category you will find that are a wide array of online mapping applications with Canadian content being offered via the internet from Nova Scotia to British Columbia.

Some notable one that has been covered so far includes:

Plus many more that you can find here

Our aim is to continue covering all the great Online Web mapping in Canada so we would love for others to submit online web mapping applications that either they have created themselves or ones that they are aware of but we have yet to cover on our site. Simply use the form below …

Is your GIS program listed?

One of the goals of Canadian GIS & Geomatics is to promote education programs in Canada. Currently we have about 25 different Universities & Colleges on our site that offer education related to GIS and Geomatics. However if you are currently in a GIS program or know of one that we have yet to post on the site then we would be interested in hearing more about it from you, so we can share that information with others.

About CanadianGIS.com

The CanadianGIS.com website is a free online Canadian Geospatial resource website that I started in 2005 after discovering that there was a lack of good online places to find Canadian GIS & Geomatics resources for the projects that I was involved with.

Over time it evolved from a small html based site created mainly for my own use to an interactive one where thousands of people now visit every week. More functionality has been added such as social media, geomatics events calendar, blog and the Canadian Geospatial directory but the focus has remained the same and thanks to a dedicated following the site remains to be one of the best places to help people find online Canadian Geospatial resources.

Where is Canada?

[vantage_gmap w=100% h=300 cat=7 zoom=10 ismapnormal=1]

Canada is the second largest country in the world (spatially) by total area – 9,984,670 km². It ocupies most of northern North America extending from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west and northward into the Arctic Ocean. Canada shares land borders with the United States to the south and northwest.
